I attended yesterday the Brooking's Institution Panel Discussion on local governance of militias in its Falk Auditorium. I could discern immediately that the discussion was of major importance. I perceived that the reason for the flourishing of these groups, mostly Muslim religious, is due to the US State Department's labeling them as terrorist organizations, thereby refusing to deal with them nor engaging to bring them to a higher level of civilization.
But not all of them should be so categorized, simply because they are not all on the same level of civilization. The Communists ruling Russia will not only deal with them but render their support. I believe that's going too far. One needs to determine each's commitment to contemporary civilization. Briefly, if anyone of these militia adheres to promulgating jihad in this day and age, it cannot be supported, because modern civilization condemns the practice (unless possibly as part of a defensive tactic tied to particular circumstances). No going back to the level of a monkey's civilization!
I applaud the Brooking's Institution in staging this panel discussion of such importance in my thought as really to locate the cause of the Western nation's neglect in helping successfully the people of the Middle East to advance to a higher level of human existence. For instance, that the US policy to prevent Iran from developing its nuclear programs may work for a time, but Iran or some other country in the region will succeed at some time or other regardless. A better approach is to educate Iran on an on-going basis, so that they will be far less inclined to use their knowledge of nuclear power to the detriment of the human race, including the existence of themselves.
